Introduction

聖約翰座堂座落在中環山頂纜車站對下的山腳不遠處。座堂每日由早上七時至下午六時開放給市民靜禱及默想。這座美輪美奐的聖堂是以十字架形狀建築而成，主要由3幢主樓構成，是本港現存歷史最悠久的西式教會建築物。座堂於一八四七年三月十一日由當時的香港總督戴維斯爵士奠基，並於一八四九年落成啟用。座堂曾於一八七三年局部改建。日佔時期(一九四一至四五年)曾用作日本人會所，座堂因此受到破壞。戰後座堂委員會將建築物重新修復開放。聖約翰座堂於一九九六年被列為法定古蹟。座堂會在一些聖日舉行唱頌大聖餐禮，香港聖公會香港島教區、澳門傳道地區的按立聖職聖禮和詩班節亦在聖約翰座堂舉行。
